Storm in a jar.
This experiment was designed to promote questions and observations around formation of clouds in the atmosphere. A jar was partially filled with hot water and hairspray was sprayed ontop and the jar sealed. Cold water was then poured on top (or ice can be placed on top of the lid). Observations were made about the water vapour condensing into visable water droplets in the jar to create swirling 'clouds'. The variables were changed such as amounts of water and changes of background to find out if this would effect the 'clouds' formation.
Our next experiment involved looking into density. In this experiment a jar was filled with water and shaving foam placed at the top. Acrylic paint mixed with water was dripped onto the shaving foam and observations were made about the various ways and speed they made their way through to the water below. Again discussions were had about what variables could be altered such as more quantity or denser paint drops and reducing the space between the water and the shaving foam. The effect was pretty amazing when the various colours began to drift down and made the observations a lot more fun!!
